What have I become????
Anyone who knows me knows that there are two groups of people I hate more than anyone. The first: Hippies. Nothing irks me more than these pot smoking losers who are "sticking it to the man" by wasting their day playing bongos naked and dancing around listening to no-talent, ass-clown bands who haven't realized that 28 minutes is too long for one song.The other group of people I despise, are yuppies. And it occurred to me Thursday night, as I was in a California Pizza Kitchen, wearing a shirt and tie, listening to my Ipod and talking on my cell phone, that I've been riding the yuppie line a little too closely. I was seriously one application of hair balm and a leather wrist cuff away from punching myself.
But luckily I went back to my hotel room, changed into two polo shirts (collars up) and watched the OC.
Phew, that was a close one.

Phil, you yuppie ways have been snowballing to the avalanche of decadence and materialism that is overwhelming your life. Do not fear, I have a 6 step plan to deprogram you.
Step One involves a weekend retreat to Pacific Garden Mission, where the only razor you'll see will be in the confiscated weapons locker.
Phil, I think that you should stop shaving. By the time that my 3rd child is a teenager, you should have yourself a pretty kick-a beard.

I dispute this claim. Many a north-eastern yuppie has gone through a hippy stage whereupon a decent amount of facial hair was grown. The long haired/non-shaven/double-collar up look is pretty popular in the northeast, especially among Ivy Leaguers.
Seeing as how the husband went to an Ivy League school, during the year I lived in Boston after college I was surrounded constantly by Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and an occasional Brown alum (and folks from Brown are particularly hippy in nature). Even the hippies at Ivy League schools are yuppies though.
The short version is as follows:
Hippy + Yuppie = Liberal
This simple equation can be used to explain much of what is wrong with America.

So, that is what's wrong with America. Man, this whole time I was thinking that it had a lot to do with greed and pride. I get it now.
Yuppies are very greedy and hippies are very proud :)
