Maybe it's just me

A lot of times I feel like I'm the only person that feels a certain way about things, especially things that make me feel uncomfortable or awkward. There is a high probability that it is just me, but there's a chance that several people feel a certain way about something, but no one ever brings it up, so we are all in this unknowing state where we feel we are the only one that feels a certain way about a certain something.

So what made me ponder such a thought, you ask? Since you asked nicely, I'll tell you.
I went to a movie alone today, since I'm traveling out in CA, and I don't know anyone, I thought it'd be a great way to kill a couple hours. This is the first time I've ever been to a movie by myself, and so that was a little awkward. I quickly got over that, however, and enjoyed 2 hours and 8 minutes of a movie. But after that 128th minute, that's when the awkwardness kicked in.
The moment a movie is over, everyone just gets up and leaves. For most people it's instantaneous...screen fades to black, first word of the credits start rolling, and BOOM, everyone's up. It's a little overwhelming. Maybe I feel strange because I was engrossed in this movie and then when it ends, I realize there are so many people around me. Or maybe I feel we should all sit around and talk about it...after all we all just experienced the same 128 minutes, let's take another 45 seconds to discuss. Maybe it's that I feel sorry for the movie theater. I mean, it invites us to come watch a lot of different movies at varying times so it's convenient for us. Provides us with snacks and a comfortable seat, and a great dark quiet room with a big screen to watch the movie. Then, as soon as we've gotten what we want, we abandon the theater, and just go about our lives like the last 2 hours didn't happen. It's a lot like that kid from grade school that never really had any friends, but his parents always bought him the new video game systems and games...so everyone would go over to his house and play them. He'd be happy that he had so many friends, and then next week, no one shows up at his birthday party.

So here's the bottom line (TM by Jeremiah at My Turn):
Does anyone else find a problem that everyone immediately gets up and bolts for the door at the end of a movie? Tell me I'm not alone people, there's only so much I can take.

Phil, perhaps I'd feel bad about abandoning the movie theater had I not just paid $10 for the movie and another $10 for the cherry Coke and popcorn, but considering the bending over I just endured, I'm more apt to bite my thumb at the theater than feel sorry for it.

P.S.

Also, condidering the amount of liberal social engineering that goes on in many movies, I think that I should be paid to watch that propaganda most of the time. And then I'd still bite my thumb at the theater.

Quiz Question: Recall the liberal bias found in Will Ferrell's "Old School"

A glimpse into the tender heart of Philthy...wonderful.

My brother will often sit through the credits to soak in a thought-provoking movie.

The only bias in Old School that I caught was a bias toward making me laugh.

Actually, I don't agree, Phil. The movie theater doesn't have feelings. It is not alive. It does not have human characteristics. Now, if you say do I feel sorry for the suits who own the corporation of theaters and probably don't even live within a 1,000 mile radius from the theater, driving around in their Jags, and only caring about the bottom line while the few locally owned small theaters die by the wayside taking any and all character, life, and sense of community away from hometowns?
Absolutely not.

Any sense of community dependant on a locally-owned theater probably deserves to be put out of its misery. I mean, who belongs to this community, a bunch of obsessed A/V nerds?

Dear Oneway,
Ever seen the movie, "The Magestic"?
If not, rent it.
1. It's a good movie.
2. The independently owned theater revives the whole community, thankyouverymuch.

Hey, have fun at Wal-mart next time you go.

Answer to the Quiz Question:

In Old School, the evil, hated, nemesis of the movie, Dean Pritchard, is shown to have a framed picture of himself and none other than the elder President Bush; additionally, there is another framed picture in his office showing the dean in a hunting pose with dead animal and a gun in his hand…devices used purely for social engineering...the dean was a jerk, so the makers of the movie chose to associate him with President Bush, hunting, and guns, even though doing so was completely unrelated and unnecessary to the plot.

I nearly walked out of the theater.

wal-mart blows for many reasons...but mostly because nearly everything they sell is crap.

as for old school...nothing in that movie is meant to be taken seriously, they could have shown a picture of the dean and Bush making out and i would have thought it was funny.

Walmart provides a great service to many families and my dad actually buys clothes there, so back the truck up.

A good rule as far as pop entertainment goes that works well for me is: “If he’s a celebrity, he’s an idiot”. This way, I can still enjoy Jack Black and Will Ferrell as clowns and not expect too much from them intellectually.

Teresa, do you really believe that everything else that was hilarious in old School was related and necessary to the plot of that movie? If I would have thought about walking out of every funny movie that I have seen because of something that was unrelated or unnecessary to the plot of the movie, my thighs would be aching like the heart of a child who just got his tele-tubby eaten by his brother (because of the small up and down movements that would make as I contemplated leaving during ever unrelated and unnecessary part).

Johnny boy, all I can say is that I'm sick of liberal social engineering in movies and TV. I was around 8 years old the first time I noticed anti-gun bias in the media and since people are unfortunately affected by that crap, I haven't stopped being bothered by it since.

My thighs would never ache like the heart of child who just got her stuffed Barney cooked in the microwave (true story in the husband's family), because if I were to ever leave a movie, I'd leave, without hesitation, and not come back...there would be no repetitive movements of the thigh muscles.
